Meet Kathy Brown van Zutphen

Experience You Can Count On. Someone You Can Talk To.

Some legal decisions are planned years in advance. Others arrive when life takes an unexpected turn.

Kathy Brown van Zutphen understands both.

With nearly 30 years of legal experience, Kathy has helped individuals and families navigate important decisions, complex circumstances, and moments when the right guidance makes all the difference.

As the founder of Coastwide Law, she brings that experience to a practice built around clear communication, personal attention, and practical solutions.

Whether you're planning for the future or facing an immediate concern, Kathy wants you to understand your options and feel confident about your next steps.

The Experience Behind the Advice

Kathy graduated magna cum laude from the University of Alabama and earned her law degree from Cumberland School of Law.

She was admitted to practice in Alabama in 1997, Mississippi in 1999, and Louisiana in 2008. Her legal background spans family law, probate, estates, elder law, corporate matters, and civil litigation.

That breadth of experience gives Kathy a valuable perspective on how legal issues can overlap, particularly when families are making decisions about property, finances, aging loved ones, and the future.

Today, her work at Coastwide Law emphasizes estate planning, wills and trusts, and conservatorships.

A Perspective Shaped by Life

Kathy's understanding of her clients extends beyond the courtroom and legal documents.

She's a business owner, parent, caregiver, and community leader who understands what it means to balance competing responsibilities while trying to make the best decisions for the people who depend on you.

She knows that a conversation about a will may also involve concerns about children, aging parents, or family relationships. She understands that people sometimes seek legal help during stressful, uncertain, or deeply personal moments.

That's why she believes in listening first, explaining things clearly, and treating every client as an individual.

Kathy has a favorite way of describing her approach: a little more "stress ease" and a lot less "legalese."

It's a philosophy that shapes how she works with clients every day.

Connected to the Community She Serves

Kathy has built professional and personal relationships along the Mississippi Gulf Coast, where she lives, works, and serves her community.

She has shared legal insights with readers of Gulf Coast Woman magazine and was recognized among the publication's 100 Successful Women to Know.

Her connection to the community reflects the same values she brings to her practice: relationships, service and helping people make informed decisions about the things that matter in their lives.

Let's Talk About What Matters to You.

Whether you're creating an estate plan, reviewing a will or trust, or trying to determine how to help an aging loved one, Kathy welcomes the opportunity to learn about your circumstances.

At Coastwide Law, we start by understanding where you are and where you want to go.
